You're engaged! Now how do you add your own personal nerdy flair to your big day? I'm here to show you!
Decor: The number one thing you can do to geekify your wedding is to decorate with some special nerdy flair. Whatever your theme, if your wedding is "traditional" or not, it's easy to incorporate in various ways:
Centerpieces: Make your table centerpieces stand out! Incorporate nerdy elements into your centerpieces with unique lanterns, figurines or treasures from your favorite franchises, or embossed logos or symbols from your fandoms.
Flowers/Floral Arrangements: How do you make flowers nerdy, you may ask? A few ways actually! You can incorporate color themes from your franchise of choice (for example, Harry Potter is often associated with Maroon/Red, Green, Yellow, and Blue), look through and reference your chosen media for any specific floral references (i.e. roses for Disney/Beauty and the Beast, flowers similar to Silent Princess in Breath of the Wild, etc.), or turn your franchise into flowers by making comic book flowers or book paper flowers.
Signage: Make your signs fit your theme! Use geek-style fonts and pictures indicative of your favorite media, or turn your seating chart into a map of the cosmos (which also shows guests where their seats are, of course).
Stationary / Invitation Package: Personalize your stationary and invitation package to your specific theme! Etsy is a great place for this, or making your own with a Cricut or similar.
Unique Vows, Readings, and/or Ceremonial Elements: If appropriate for your wedding ceremony, incorporate unique, custom vows referencing the stories that brought you together as a couple, or go ahead put a passage from those stories in your ceremony as a reading! You may even be able to incorporate a nerdy ceremony from one of your fandoms!
Cake or Cake Topper: Make or buy a custom cake topper, and/or decorate your cake with colors, designs, and elements from your favorite stories. Again, Etsy is a great place for custom wedding cake toppers.
Music and Playlists: Ask your DJ or band to incorporate some songs from your favorite games, movies, or shows! Instrumentals from video games can make excellent ceremony music or dinner music.
Outfits & Accessories: Maybe a Lord of the Rings inspired dress is too much, but maybe it isn't! Find a dress or outfit that fits your theme. Or, if a full outfit or dress is too out there, add accessories to add a pop of geekiness - custom cufflinks, geeky jewelry, etc.
And more! You can add as much or as little reference to your favorite fandoms as possible.
